THE SPIRITUAL BATTLE – 5 Secular Humanism: In Satan We Trust
“And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels (messengers) were cast out with him” (Revelation 12:9). KJV
Loved ones, secular humanism another ploy of the devil we face in our Spiritual Battle with evil. It is a position close to atheism and agnosticism. It is a progressive philosophy of life that, without theism or other supernatural beliefs, affirms MAN’S ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good.
In simple words, it is the belief that mankind can live good lives without religious or superstitious beliefs. Humanists reject the existence of a divine being, focusing instead on the possibility and responsibilities of humans for creating their own reality. They argue that individuals have the right to define meaning for themselves. There slogan is: “Think for yourself, act for everyone."
Secular humanism thus derives the goals of life from human need and interest rather than from theological or ideological abstractions, and asserts that humanity must take responsibility for its own destiny.
To their way of thinking, religion is associated with irrationalism, superstition, and oppression. Therefore, scientific discoveries motivate their approach to life rather than focusing on God and religion, or some divinely given external source.
Their associations advocate progressive values and equality for humanists, atheists, freethinkers, and the non-religious across the country. Their goal is to remove God from the United States (cf. Psalm 14:1). They are willing to spend whatever it takes to make their dream come true, which is to ban God and the Christian faith from America (and the world).
In one sense, this is nothing new, as Satan’s agents have been working through the ages. The Psalmist wrote in Psalm 53:1: “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.” So the foolish thoughts of secular humanism are not new.
The results of this humanistic doctrine reveal an increasing effort to erase or remove any thought of God from having any influence on our nation (cf. Psalm 106:13, 19-21). We read that in some public halls of education, Bibles have been removed from the libraries and students are forbidden to bring their Bible’s to read during a “free reading” period.
Dear friends, you will be wise to acknowledge that humans are in a spiritual battle with Satan and his ministers (Ephesians 6:12; 2 Corinthians 11:14-15; cf. Job 1; 1 Chronicles 21:1).
God’s existence was recognized by our founding fathers and has continued through the years. You remember the words in our pledge of allegiance to our nation’s flag, as we recite, “One nation, under God….” But in some places, the words “under God” are being omitted from the pledge.
Gospel preachers are busy proclaiming the truth about Jesus (2 Timothy 4:1-5; John 14:6; 17:17; cf. Acts 4:12), “…to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men” (Daniel 4:17, 25, 32; cf. Psalm 109:6).
All Christian believers need to give heed to the Apostle Paul’s admonition to young Timothy: “1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour” (1 Timothy 2:1-3; cf. 1 Thessalonians 5:17).
