The Liberty Letter – 305a Suppose You Won The Jackpot Prize!
Loved ones, suppose you entered a contest that had the promise of $1,000,000 to the person who drew the winning number. The news then came that you had drawn the winning number, and thus would receive that huge sum of money. Now, you didn’t need the money, as you already had a good income and were not in debt. So your good heart began to seek out people you knew and neighbors who might be in debt and needed some help to pay their debts and make things right in their lives.
Suppose your neighbor had been ill for some time, and had lost his job since he was unable to work, and now was about to lose his house as he had been unable to pay the mortgage. That would put him and his family out on the street. What would you do? It’s pretty obvious that if you had a good heart, you would offer to give him some financial help.
Isn’t this the admonition given to us in Galatians? “Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith” (Gal. 6:9-10).
Now, let’s consider another realm of doing good. While you may have saved your neighbor from losing his home, what about his eternal home—heaven? It’s quite obvious that we all know people who are not Christians, people who have not obeyed the gospel of Christ, and thus are doomed to the fires of hell. And what can we do to help our neighbor or friend (or even a stranger) who is destined for hell? We have the answer in our hands. It is the saving power of the gospel of Christ. The instructions for this saving power are contained in our Bibles, the Word of God.
What will you think when standing before the Lord on Judgement day, when your neighbor hears the words “Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels” (Matt. 25:41), and then your neighbor turns to you and says, in the words of one of our songs, “You never mentioned Him to me.” We are reminded of the words of the Great Commission in Matt. 28:19-20: "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
To whom did Christ give this charge? Obviously, to the apostles. But note that those who were taught and baptized by the apostles, are commanded to do the same thing—go make disciples and baptize. The Great Commission is just as much our responsibility as it was for the apostles. Let us then be busy in seeking to increase the population of heaven. Question: why were you baptized? Obviously, because Christ commanded it to have your sins forgiven. So, why should you and I seek souls? Because Christ commanded it! Talk to your neighbor. Talk to your store clerk. Talk to your co-worker. Seek souls! God is so good. Love you. Samuel – 25 October 2026
