Liberty Letter - 34 - Vengeance - Samuel Matthews - 25 July 21
THE LIBERTY LETTER – 34

Vengeance is an awful and painful way to respond to those whom we feel have wronged us. The LORD is our assurance of just rewards. Leave it to Him. “O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongeth; O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself” (Psalm 94:1). Escalating vindictiveness only leads to broken people and to broke lives. Worse yet, it leads to broken character.

The Father, through the Spirit, has empowered us to be patient as He rights the injustices committed against us. God commands: “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord” (Romans 12:19).

We know, “God is jealous, and the Lord revengeth; the Lord revengeth, and is furious; the Lord will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies” (Nahum 1:2). We must be more concerned about the salvation of those who may have wronged us than we are about getting even. Keep growing in Christ for a heart like God’s only begotten Son Jesus. Let's go to heaven together.

LET’S PRAY: O LORD Our God, thank you for giving us the breath of life on this Lord’s day. We acknowledge that our lives are open books in your eyes, and we cannot hide from your perfect and holy presence. Thank you for forgiving us, your faithful children, for the offenses we have committed that brought shame upon ourselves. Please grant us the grace and mercy that we need in order to forgive others as you forgive. Brighten the glowing embers of faith in the hearts of all Christians so that our faith and hope, that may have grown cold, will return in dazzling light that will encourage the down-trodden to repent and come home to your perfect love and forgiveness. In the precious name of Jesus we pray. Let us all say, AMEN! – 25 July 2021
